DP basketball teams take third at Texas Invitational

Both Deer Park High School varsity basketball teams took third place in their respective brackets at the McDonald’s Texas Invitational Basketball Tournament. The three-day tournament matched 80 high school basketball teams from around the state and is the second-largest high school basketball tournament in the nation. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Deer Park and Pasadena Education Foundations.

The Lady Deer finished the tournament with a 3-2 record, taking wins against South Houston and San Antonio John Jay and a loss to Pearland in pool play. In the Gold Division II bracket, the Lady Deer fell to Clear Falls before defeating Cypress Creek 38-30. Read more…

First day of girls basketball practice nearing for maroon and gold

Nine individual games at Cotton Watkins Gym on top of possibly more contests from action in the McDonald’s Texas Invitational highlight Deer Park High School’s varsity girls’ 2015-2016 schedule.

Longtime head coach Theresa White released her schedule Monday as she anxiously awaits the first formal day of practice state-wide which arrives next Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The boys’ first formal day will arrive Oct. 28, the following Wednesday.

The Lady Deer will make their home debut with the McDonald’s Texas Invitational, set for Nov. 19-21. They’ll usher in their season earlier that week with a road trip to Kingwood High School on Nov. 10. Tipoff is 7 p.m. Read more…
